About us
Community Central is a friendly space on the internet for Tangata Whenua, the community and voluntary sector, public health workers, advocates and others to come online to converse, share and work together. The new website will be available in October 2008.
You will be able to:
- Quickly find relevant information for the sector in one place;
- Share with and support one another through broad online networks;
- Discuss hot topics;
- Share documents and communicate with others on a project or committee in a private workspace;
- Subscribe to broadcasts, newsletters, and notice boards.
The five initial partner organisations have so far identified priority needs and have chosen proven internet software.
But this is only the start.
As Community Central evolves, we are committed to involving other people and organisations. After the release of a prototype version around mid-2008, we want to get your feedback to help us decide on refinements and additions.
Over time, too, Community Central will grow, so that further phases will be tailored to a growing range of user needs.
Alongside our work on the technical side of things, we will be discussing how Community Central, as a sector-owned project, can grow and survive for the long-term, and increase the confidence and skills of people working in the sector.
With grants from the Digital Strategy Community Partnership Fund, the JR McKenzie Trust and Lottery Community, we’ve been able to get started.
CommunityCentral is an initiative of five national umbrella organisations:
- ANGOA (Association of Non-Governmental Organisations of Aotearoa)
- NZCOSS (NZ Council of Social Services)
- NZ Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations (NZFVWO)
- SHORE (Centre for Social and Health Outcomes Research and Evaluation)
- Volunteering NZ.
